Homework Guidance
Homework details for individual classes are provided by teachers on Show My Homework.
Pupils in Years 7 and 8 should be spending no less than 45 minutes a week on English homework. Time may be spent researching, reading, planning, learning 'by heart' or writing. The English Faculty at Beechen Cliff School is very keen that pupils read at home every day, for pleasure and personal interest, in addition to any written homework tasks that are set.
Pupils in Year 9 should be spending about 75 minutes a week on English homework. In addition to the tasks set above, pupils will be asked to analyse and discuss in greater depth. We are keen to encourage pupils to read at home for pleasure, personal interest and improvement, every day.
Pupils in Years 10 and 11 should be spending no less than 90 minutes a week on English homework.
At 'A' Level we expect students to organise their time carefully in order to meet the increasing demands of their course(s). Essays, reading, research and note-making are all set as homework tasks. Preparation for coursework will often take a number of weeks.
